Corbett’s Crater longtail effect
Damn. I want my own crater now.
I wonder if there is a bunch of kinetic energy left over from the impact that fuels James Corbett’s blogging.
Media Summit is a shameful joke
I almost went to Media Summit.
After reading Jeff Jarvis’ summary of the Barry Diller keynote, I’m glad I didn’t. What a joke!
Let’s put all the people who don’t get it in a room and see if we can convince ourselves that the people who do get it are wrong.
Media Summit is a bunch of has beens grasping for life rafts around their sinking ships.
Media Summit is a joke.
Built in HTTP means complete interop and a possible future for Java
I was reading Dave Winer’s post about HTTP servers built into products like stereos and printers.
Imagine what it would be like if everything had a web interface. Complete interop.
Your cell phone’s browser could double as the entertainment remote and the thermostat, preheat your oven and warm up your car. I’m sure you can even think of better ideas than that.
It makes me think that there is a future for Java again, this time as the cross-platform HTTP server that runs equally well on your cell phone and on your refrigerator.
But then again, you never know with Java.
Seth Godin goes too far. . .or short?
Seth Godin asks for a product that let’s you know when your cell phone is more than thirty feet away, so you don’t lose it.
I don’t live in a mansion but thirty feet is a little short, no? It’d be a pain to have to turn it on and off. Maybe not though.
Memerank ™ is the key to relevant live web
Marcelo Calbucci has a great idea that I think can even be made betterif we insert some attention metadata.
By focusing on affinity groups instead of mass popularity, we can extract the most meaningful news from the live web, rather than the just the most popular and the ones that popular bloggers link to (often the same).
Links are truly dead with a sophisticated algorithm that could do this.
I’m going to label it memerank ™ and use it on a share your OPML like project I’ve been playing with over at http://dev.glistn.com
I think the results could be interesting, but I’m curioous to know whether it will produce results that readers would want. I think it will.
